Will Apple Really Cut-off their iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle Line?

Sep 28

Now, one device is on the way to go and one device is on the other way of release path. Well, this is just what i am thinking after what we’ve heard because the rumor is cycling with the report after the announcement of iPhone 5 in press event that two most popular 10 years old existing MP3 players iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle are getting cut from Apple’s product lineup by the end of this year. TUAW claims in their report:

It seems that the “product transition” Apple mentioned on the last earnings call could very well be within the iPod line. Specifically, if you want to buy an iPod shuffle or iPod classic from Apple, you should do it sooner rather than later. We’ve heard those two iPods are getting the axe this year.

As, Apple is now more focusing on touchscreen devices like the iPod touch and iPod nano. Apple will update their iPod touch which detailed the introduction of a white iPod Touch model will be available soon. The shuffle is basically the same form factor as the nano, minus a screen. The classic uses a platter-based hard drive, while Apple is largely transitioning to flash-based memory solutions.

In this year, October 24th is the day of the 10-year anniversary of the iPod. Over the past few years, after the growing revenue of Apple’s iPhone make the smaller share of iPod as a product line and less demand in the market. Cnet also reported that;

That’s quite an achievement, but it’s also a nice place to bookend things. I can imagine Apple saying, “It had a great run, now go buy an iPhone.” Also, the iPod just isn’t the moneymaker it once was for Apple. In the fourth quarter of 2010, iPod sales made up just 8 percent of Apple’s total revenue, and they have been in a steady decline ever since the iPhone’s introduction.

Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart are such retailers who have already started offering discounts on some iPods, because to clear out existing inventory which would be make trouble for them in the future. But, all what we say, this is very sad to see iPods to discontinue.

Please, share your opinions in the comments that would Apple really decided to cut their iPod classic or the shuffle?
